How to Use Express 3D
A complete guide to generating a 3D model with Express 3D and preparing it for manufacturing.
Express 3D is a feature within Single Item projects that allows you to generate a production-ready 3D model of your product idea using AI.
The generated model can then be sized, customized, and sent directly into manufacturing — all within Gildform.
Where to Find Express 3D
Express 3D is available inside Single Item projects.
To access it:
- Go to gildform.com/design
- Create a Single Item project.
- Generate design variations or upload your own reference image
- Select a design.
- Locate the “Convert to 3D Model” section.
- Choose Express 3D.
Step-by-Step: Generating a 3D Model
- Enter your design details.
- Generate visual variations or upload your own reference image.
- Select the design you want to produce.
- Click “Generate 3D Model”.
- Wait for the model to process (typically a few minutes).
- Review and adjust dimensions.
- Proceed to production.

When to Use Express 3D
Express 3D is ideal for:
- Solid, single-piece objects
- Signet rings
- Bands
- Pendants
- Clean, continuous forms
For more complex builds with chains with separate links, mechanical components, or multi-part assemblies — our CAD designers remain available for collaborative development.
Image Quality Guidelines
Express 3D generates a 3D model based directly on the image you give it.
This means the quality, clarity, and structure of your image will directly affect the generated model.
If uploading your own reference image, here are some tips to get the best results:
- Use clear, high-resolution images
- Ensure the object is fully visible
- Avoid heavy shadows or extreme angles
- Use front-facing or slightly angled views
- Make sure edges and shapes are clearly defined
If your image is blurry, incomplete, or highly abstract, the generated 3D model will reflect those limitations.
If your project requires detailed engineering or structural refinement, consider using the Hire CAD Designer option.
Limitations
- Complex interlocking components may generate as fused (non-separable) geometry.
- Moving parts are not supported in Express 3D.
- Very intricate micro-details may require manual CAD refinement.

FAQ's
Can I edit the 3D model after generation?
Express 3D generates a finalized 3D model within the Gildform platform, and direct geometry editing is not currently supported inside the project workspace.
If you need to make technical modifications to the file itself, you can purchase and download the 3D model. Once downloaded as an STL file, it can be opened and edited in compatible CAD software.
For more complex revisions or structural adjustments, you may also choose to work with one of our CAD designers.
What happens if I don’t like the result?
Express 3D works best as an iterative tool.
If the generated model doesn’t match your vision, you can:
- Adjust your original prompt
- Generate new visual variations
- Select a different design to convert
Small changes to wording can significantly improve results. We recommend refining your prompt and regenerating until the structure aligns with your idea.
Can I use Express 3D for collections?
At this time, Express 3D is available only for Single Item projects.
Collection projects are developed in collaboration with our design team to ensure consistency across multiple pieces.
If you’re building a coordinated set or multi-item concept, we recommend selecting the Collection workflow.
Does Express 3D replace working with designers?
No.
Express 3D provides a faster path for generating a 3D model and moving into production.
Our CAD designers remain available for projects that require advanced detailing, complex assemblies, or collaborative development.
Express 3D expands your options — it does not replace the designer-led experience.
