Understanding Model Dimensions & Resizing
Understand how overall sizing affects your model and production pricing.
When preparing your design for production, you’ll set the overall height of your model in millimeters (mm).
Your selected height determines the final scale of the piece. The entire model resizes proportionally, ensuring your design keeps its original shape and detail at any size.
How Resizing Works
When you enter a height:
- The model scales uniformly in all directions
- Width and thickness adjust automatically
- Fine details maintain their proportions
This ensures your design remains visually consistent — it does not stretch or distort.
What “Height” Means
Height refers to the vertical dimension of your model as shown in the 3D viewer.
When you enter a height:
-
The model scales proportionally from its original size.
-
Width and thickness adjust automatically.
-
The overall proportions of the design are preserved.
For symmetrical shapes (like cubes or spheres), all dimensions may be equal.
For other designs, the vertical dimension determines the overall scale.
How Pricing Is Calculated
Pricing is calculated using the final scaled geometry of your model.
When you adjust the height:
-
The volume of the model changes.
-
Material usage updates accordingly.
-
Pricing reflects the new scaled dimensions.
Material, finish, and engraving selections are applied during production and calculated in real time.
Important Notes
-
Resizing does not distort your design.
-
All dimensions update proportionally.
-
Pricing reflects the final scaled size at checkout.
Express 3D Models
Express 3D models are generated at a default base height.
When you enter your desired production height, the model scales proportionally from that original version.
